After careful review of my resume, they told me I have too many skills. Yup, you read this right, I am OVER QUALIFIED for virtually everything. It doesn’t help that I do not have a college degree, I have LIFE EXPERIENCE!
My number one skill is storytelling. It’s a skill that serves me well in my writing, but how do you get a J.O.B. with a skill like that? A storyteller can explain virtually anything, in a way that anyone can understand it. Translation of technical writing into layperson terminology would be a good example. Speaking to groups is also a form of storytelling.
Sales is another of my well-honed skills. I am a consummate sales professional and am interested in selling on a world-wide basis. The idea of travel appeals to me. Sales in the retail world is a different skill, I call it a merchant sales person. I am not really a merchant although I could do it if I really wanted to.
Marketing goes hand in hand with sales, something else I excel in. Marketing has a storytelling aspect to it, along with an artistic quality. Marketing gets people to think about your product, sales gets people to buy it.
Knowing how to do something is important, having the ability to teach others how to do it is even more important. If there are five people who can do what I do, while working for me, I can work five times as hard without adding any extra effort on my part. Teaching, training, and coaching are a part of my skill set, too.
Narrowing the field to be able to focus in on what I want to do is not one of my skills. I need to hire someone to help me in this aspect. I enjoy using all my abilities, picking one is a bit of a struggle. For those who know me, which one would you pick?
