The Faces of Facebook

The Facebook posts on my wall fall into certain categories.

“Share if you agree” and “Can we get a million likes for . . . “ are my least favorite. “Share if you love your child.” Duh. Of course I love my child. Why do I have to share this? Do I have to share every time it comes up on my wall?

Animal posts outrank people posts. I get lots of videos and photos of pets. I also get information about wild animals and endangered species, usually with a link to another website. Sometimes I get sad information about animal abuse or killings. People think I need to see the graphic pictures but I don’t think so, words are enough.

Political and/or social commentary, often with articles from various news sources, generate the most arguments. I rarely participate because it is easy to be misunderstood in a few sentences but I enjoy seeing what other people think.

Inspirational quotes and humor are about equal in numbers. I often share these (if they don’t ask me to) because they are fun.

Advertising from sites that I liked has increased although I can hide them if they post too often.

The best posts are like a Christmas letter, complete with photos, so I can catch up on what is happening with the people I care about. These are my favorites. I love to hear about the kids growing up, the birthday parties, and the trips. I love seeing the mundane and the exciting in the lives of my friends and family.

  1. Hey Shahri,

I loved this blog. All day in training we have been discussing facebook in the need to be positive. I love looking at things that give me the warm and fuzzies. Those are things I like. Hope all is well.
