“They” say you need to have a destination, a goal in mind, to help chart a course towards success. This means success in all areas of your life, not just financial goals that the goal-setters look to, but on a personal and spiritual level, as well. If you have a goal you may need to correct course, but you will get there. The ubiquitous “they” guarantees it. There are plenty of examples from Olympic athletes to prominent business people, from a friend who lost 50 pounds, to another friend who had a healthy child after years of trying for a baby. “They” remind you to set realistic goals, try hard, never give up, and be positive. If you miss a goal you either set your sights too high, are not trying hard enough, gave up too soon, or are thinking wrong.
“They” don’t tell you that life happens. Something totally unexpected can change your trajectory and make you miss your goal entirely. Perhaps you fall in love or perhaps a loved one gets sick. You may go on in the general direction of the destination but make a ton of U-turns and get off on the wrong exits. You may discover it isn’t really what you wanted when you get there, if you even get there. You may end up somewhere totally different and like where you are. You may end up somewhere totally different and not like it.
Going off course is okay. It doesn’t mean you are less of a person or unworthy, it just means you have a different path than you expected. Enjoy every moment. The journey is all we have.
