Our niece is getting married next month and she had an “almost” traditional bridal shower. Not sure what traditional actually is, I never had a bridal shower, but I can guess based on others I have been to over the years. This was a “Sweet or Spicy” theme and everyone wore pink or red, based on their sweet or spicy style (I wore a print with both colors).
Veggie trays and mini cupcakes, jambalaya and rice. The spread was sweet and spicy. We played pin the mustache on the fiancé, guess the bride’s age in ten different photos, and we got points for having strange stuff in our purses. There was also a raffle you could qualify for if you brought a pair of new panties for the bride. Everyone also brought a recipe to get her started with cooking. As a full time engineer, it isn’t something she has concentrated on yet but she is excited about entertaining and cooking goes along with the territory. Once you leave the teenage years you can’t just order pizza every time you have friends over.
Gifts came in a just few categories. (1) Lingerie – from sweet white night gowns to spicy candy underwear (2) Wine and wine paraphernalia. Is it called paraphernalia when you are taking about wine? (3) Sheets (4) Kitchen gadgets (5) One piece of word art. There was someone to take notes as to who brought which gift, someone to get rid of the wrapping paper, and someone to make a bouquet of the ribbons to be used as the rehearsal bouquet.
My favorite part was watching the grand nieces, little girls in their pink finery, helping with the bouquet and playing like tiny princesses. I like parties best when there are children around. Their laughter is contagious and their energy is passed on to all the generations who came before them.
